Nohau Offers Full In-Circuit Emulator Support for
Motorola's MC9S12C32 MCU

Nohau Corporation announced that it offers full-featured emulator support for the MC9S12C32 microcontroller, for Motorola Inc. 's Semi-conductor Product Sector's HCS12 family. Nohau’s emulator has sophisticated debugging features to assist users in their development, and aids in getting their product to market faster.

The MC9S12C32 full-emulator operates to a bus speed of 28MHz at both 5V and 3.3V. Users can start/stop, single-step, set trace triggers, examine/modify memory and C variables and perform all other emulator functions. The use of all the C32 features and resources is supported. Large emulation RAM and full-speed hardware regeneration of the C32 lost paged-address lines can be used to replace the internal FLASH, allow an easy debug process, and develop applications for future C128, C96 and C64 family members. An unlimited number of page-aware software and hardware breakpoints are available.

Nohau is pleased to offer this tool in a timely manner, enhancing Nohau's support of all HCS12 based derivatives, said Olle Hallengren, President of Nohau Corporation. This continues our alliance with Motorola extending the number of supported derivatives for the HCS12 family.

Motorola's MC9S12C32 is a 48/52/80 pin Flash-based Industrial/Automotive network control MCU. It includes a 16-bit HCS12 CPU, 32K FLASH, 2K RAM, one SCI, one SPI, an 8-channel 16-bit timer, a 6-channel PWM, an 8-channel, 10-bit A/D, a CAN 2.0 module, 50 digital I/Os, 2 digital inputs, 12 I/Os with interrupt and wakeup capability, system resource mapping, PLL, interrupt control, and bus interfacing. It accepts a 3 V to 5.5V external supply range.

The Nohau emulator enables testing and debugging of C32 operating modes that are not possible, or are very limited, using simpler BDM emulators. These include: Going through and out of Reset and COP Watchdog Reset, STOP and WAIT power-down modes, clock loss limp-home mode, and full internal PLL support for frequent speed changes. These events can also be clearly recorded in the trace.

The trace is optional, and allows recording of up to 131,000 frames of C32 instruction execution and bus activity. The trace is equipped with powerful triggers and a filter to set complex conditions to stop upon, and focus the trace to record only relevant information. The trace can start, stop and be re-programmed without ever stopping or slowing down the C32 execution. This ability is very important to debug applications that cannot be stopped (communication networks, for example).
